Everything You Need to Know About How We Keep You Safe

Medical-grade sterilization refers to a high-level decontamination process that completely eliminates all forms of microbial life—bacteria, viruses, fungi, and spores—from tools and surfaces. This is the same standard used in hospitals and surgical environments, ensuring maximum protection against infection or contamination.

In practice, medical-grade sterilization typically involves:

  • Autoclaving: A method that uses pressurized steam at high temperatures (usually 121–134°C) to sterilize metal tools. This is the gold standard in healthcare and professional clinics.

  • Use of disposable, single-use items: Anything that can’t be safely sterilized is used once and discarded to prevent cross-contamination.

  • Sterile packaging: Tools are sealed in sterile pouches and placed in an autoclave for sterilization. The pouches remain sealed until opened for use.

  • Strict sanitation protocols: This includes disinfecting surfaces, hand hygiene, and use of gloves and PPE.

After each service, the reusable tools (such as nail clippers, tweezers, etc.) go through a rigorous process for sanitization and sterilization. The tools are manually cleaned to remove visible debris, followed by submerging them in a medical-grade instrument washer filled with an enzymatic solution used to breakdown any blood and organic soils. Afterwards, the tools are rinsed, sealed in sterilization pouches and sterilized in an autoclave. Once the sterilization process is completed in the autoclave, the tools remain sterile and sealed in the pouches until ready for use.

There are 3 types of indicators used to monitor and verify the effectiveness of medical sterilization in an autoclave. All 3 types of indicators are used at our clinic.

The 3 types of indicators are:

Chemical Indicators – these are visual markers (usually strips, tapes, or pouches) that change colour when exposed to specific sterilization conditions like temperature, pressure, or time).

  • How they work: A chemical dye reacts to heat and/or steam.

  • Purpose: They confirm that the autoclave reached the right conditions, but do not guarantee sterility.

  • Use case: Placed inside each instrument pouch or tray during every autoclave cycle.

Biological Indicators – these are the most reliable method to confirm sterilization because they test whether the autoclave successfully killed live microorganisms—usually bacterial spores, which are the most resistant to sterilization.

  • How they work: A vial or strip containing spores (e.g. Geobacillus stearothermophilus) is run through a full sterilization cycle, then incubated to check for any microbial growth.

  • Purpose: Confirms the autoclave is actually sterilizing—not just heating.

  • Use case: Used daily to confirm successful sterilization.

Physical Indicators – these are the built-in readings from the autoclave itself: pressure gauges, temperature sensors, and time logs.

  • How they work: The machine logs actual cycle parameters.

  • Purpose: Provides a technical record that correct conditions were maintained throughout the cycle.

  • Use case: Checked and logged during every sterilization cycle.

Yes! Each service is performed with disposable items and are discarded after use or given to the client to take home. The disposable items are never used on other clients. Implementing this protocol limits cross-contamination and ensures the health and safety of our clients.

Nail polish is poured into disposable nail polish bottles or poured onto a disposable palette for each client. After the service, the nail polish is discarded or can be given to the client to take home for touch-ups! Rest assured that we do not double dip or cross-contaminate nail polish bottles, and never reuse disposable nail polish brushes!

Yes! Our technicians are highly-trained and educated by our medical practitioners to provide services and identify these infections, and can recommend services to treat the fungal infection and wart.

Each manicure and pedicure station is custom-built and connected to an HVAC system to extract dust and fumes from the air to keep our space healthier for our employees and clients.

In addition, we have a premium, commercial-grade air purifier (commonly used in medical practices such as dental offices) to purify the air. Our Jade 2.0 Air Purifier has an advanced filtration system that removes harmful particles, pollutants and airborne contaminants for clean healthy air. The device has several filtration levels including a pre-filter, ultra fine particulate filter (HEPA-Rx), activated carbon filter, UV-C+ lamp, and a revitalizing negative ion chamber. Air is drawn through the bottom of the unit, passed through the 5 stages of purification and released through the top of the unit.
